MBL “PLACE CARD” c. 1965

This place card measures 3.5 x 5.5 inches and is printed on card stock. It was designed to be folded and sat as a tent card on guest tables in the Dining Room.
The purpose was to introduce the Guest Family to their waitress for the week, and indicate their assigned table.
The colour photograph was taken in the mid 1960’s and was used for many years, both as a place card, and as a post card. Three waitresses stand under the MBL sign, and a trio of guests occupy various types of seating in front of the Tea Room.
The Bell Telephone phone booth also is situated on the Tea Room porch. Later it was moved to the foot of the stairs by the entrance to the store. Later still it was removed, and a pay phone installed in the Ice House.
An A.T.R.O sign hangs below the MBL oval sign, confirming MBL membership in the Association of Tourist Resorts of Ontario. Visible at the extreme left of the photo is the hose that rang a bell in the store indicating that a car had crossed it and a customer was wishing to buy gas at the Texaco pumps.
